MOTHER HEN SOFTWARE LAUNCHES HANDEGOLF AT 2001 PGA MERCHANDISE SHOW

Innovative PalmOS® Scorecard Revolutionizes Golf Tournament Scoring

AUSTIN, Texas – January 25, 2001 – Throw out those scorecards and tiny pencils – golf scoring is finally automated. Mother Hen Software, a golf software supplier, today announced the launch of its flagship product: handegolf 1.0.

This interactive golf-scoring system makes real-time scoring available and affordable for golfers in any event. With handegolf, golfers can now realize the excitement of a real-time leaderboard, whether playing in competitive tours, club championships, or Sunday morning rounds with friends.

“Golf is a unique sport in that players and spectators are typically unaware of the standings during the round. This lessens the drama and excitement surrounding a competitive event,” said Mike Maizland, co-founder of Mother Hen Software. “Not only does handegolf enable up-to-the-minute standings for the field, it also automates the traditionally labor-intensive task of scoring.”

According to Maizland, this automation, along with the numerous individual and team game formats supported by handegolf, enables tournament organizers to offer much more than a Scramble format to participants.

Organizers can now manage event pairings, handicaps, scoring, ranking, statistics, and all of the tasks necessary to keep an event running smoothly. During the round, each group of golfers carries a handheld unit. Players tap in their scores, and the PDA transmits the data to a website for viewing. They can track their own scores, as well as the scores of their competitors, in real time.

handegolf runs on the portable PalmOS® platform. Golfers use the handheld devices to enter their scores and round statistics, which is then made available to all golfers and spectators via the Internet. This information is stored in the handegolf desktop system after each round and is then available to participants with the push of a button for reporting and historical reference. Reports include tournament and round results, as well as statistical data for the golfers and courses played. Scoring is fully automated.

With the widespread use of inexpensive Palm devices, handegolf is an efficient way for tournament organizers and golf course owners to add more excitement to the game of golf. “handegolf lets golfers concentrate on their swing, without the hassle of keeping score,” said Maizland.
